Plant Only: 3" Calathea Rufibarba aka Velvet Calathea
Calathea's are one of the prettiest families of plants, so many variations to fall in love with. But they are not for the Beginner Plant Owner, beauty comes with fussiness.
You need to walk that fine line between keeping the soil moist all times without letting the soil become too soggy at the root level which will cause root rot. We find these guys will benefit quite nicely from a Leca Ball pebble tray to create that extra humidity without overwatering. We also like to use distilled water with them, the minerals in tap water can be too harsh and wash away the good nutrients. Also be gentle when watering to keep droplets off the foliage which can cause spotting.
Keep them out of direct sunlight so they delicate foliage doesn't burn, medium to bright indirect light is best and will keep the colours vivid
Keep out of drafts, ideal temp is 15-23 degrees celsius.
