In the Spring and Summer keep the soil moist but don't let the roots sit in water either in the saucer or damp soil at the bottom of the pot to avoid root rot; Fall and Winter let the soil dry out between waterings; all the time keep water off the leaves to prevent spotting and leave powdery mildew that won't hurt the plant but will spoil the stunning colours of the foliage.
